Tank monitoring problems

2025-06-26 17:57
Over the long-term use of oil storage tanks, corrosion can occur. According to the SY/T 0087.3-2010 Corrosion Evaluation Standard for Steel Pipelines and Storage Tanks-Direct Evaluation of Steel Storage Tanks, if the maximum pitting depth exceeds 80% of the original wall thickness or the remaining wall thickness is less than 2mm, it is classified as a severe corrosion level, requiring immediate repair or scrapping. Statistics from nine oil fields in China show that the scrapping and replacement rates due to corrosion in storage tanks are 8%, with internal corrosion perforations being 1.5 times more frequent than external corrosion. Due to the lack of effective monitoring measures, there are numerous accidents across the country where tank failures have caused significant losses of personnel and property.
Currently, the standard approach involves passively detecting issues such as leaks at the bottom of storage tanks. This process includes regular tank inspections, tank transfers, tank cleaning, testing, and maintenance, which can take at least 30-50 days and cost between 1 million to 1.5 million yuan. This method is not conducive to timely and precise early warnings, which are crucial for preventing disasters. Therefore, an excellent in-service intelligent monitoring system has become an essential tool.
